Many of my clients come to therapy because they find that their emotions are getting in the way of them living the life that they want to live. Our goal in therapy is to discover patterns in the way our brains think, so we can support the helpful ones and change or manage the unhelpful ones.
In our first therapy session together, we’ll sit down and I’ll invite you to share what brought you to therapy and how you would like to live your life if nothing got in the way. I listen, I ask questions, and together we figure out the source of suffering. We come up with a new map for how you would like to live your life. Over the next weeks and months, I’ll teach you the right tools that will help you achieve your therapy goals and live the life that you want.
I work with people with PTSD, hoarding disorder, anxiety, depression and interpersonal problems. One thing that is important to know if you are new to therapy is that issues can show up as emotional or physical symptoms. For instance, anxiety sometimes presents itself as worry or fear but it can also present itself as tension, restlessness or inability to sleep. We will work together to reduce whatever symptoms you are feeling and built coping skills to manage symptoms or keep them at bay.
